The problem
A launch post gets one shot, and you learn what Hacker News or Reddit thinks only after it is live.
What it does
Shoal is designed to let you rehearse a launch on simulated Hacker News, Reddit and X before it goes live.
How it works
- Seed: paste a launch post or README
- Simulate: thousands of simulated developers read it, vote and argue on a simulated Hacker News, Reddit or X
- Score: the predicted thread, the top objections and the edits that change the outcome
Early access by waitlist.
Find the objections before the launch thread does.
TodayNot started; the site and the waitlist are open.
The film
Aims
- Autonomous operation
- A rehearsal should need nobody to run it: paste a launch post or README, and seeding the crowd, simulating the thread and scoring the outcome happen on their own, on your own machine or server. The person decides what to change and when to launch.
- Intelligence
- Jev, a deterministic engine, runs the simulated developers: who reads, who votes, who argues. A language model writes text only when an agent posts, from a local model or an API. The predicted thread, the top objections and the edits that change the outcome come out of that run.
- Growth
- Developer-led: a single open-core binary, written in Rust and self-hostable, for people about to post to Hacker News, Reddit or X. An early-access waitlist first. Growth is launches rehearsed before they are posted, counted from the first one that is not ours.
The technical detail
Launch rehearsal. Paste a launch post or README, and thousands of simulated developers read it, vote and argue about it on a simulated Hacker News, Reddit or X; you get the predicted thread, the top objections and the edits that change the outcome. Seed, simulate, score. Planned as a single open-core binary written in Rust, self-hostable, with a local model or an API: Jev is the deterministic engine, and a language model writes text only when an agent posts. What exists today is the site and its early-access waitlist; the CLI is not started.
